EmpowerHer - Created By Marcie Mawan

EmpowerHer is a community-driven initiative based in Uganda, founded by Marcie Mawan, a South Sudanese advocate and creative whose personal journey through anxiety and depression inspired her to create a space where women could heal, express, and grow freely.

Having experienced the importance of mental wellness firsthand, Marcie was moved to turn her pain into purpose to advocate for mental health awareness and to empower her generation to speak openly, seek support, and embrace growth without shame.

EmpowerHer was brought to life through the encouragement and support of a dear friend, Ruth Sanyu Mugabi, whose faith in Marcie's vision strengthened the foundation of the initiative. Partnering through her brand, Ruzz Creative Hub, they launched EmpowerHer's first community outreach in Bweyale at a local primary school. The launch also introduced EmpowerHer's second major initiative, the Menstrual Health Awareness Campaign, an addition that expanded the movement's advocacy from mental health to menstrual health education, aiming to equip young girls with both knowledge and confidence.

Ruzz Creative Hub itself is a dynamic creative platform that uses art, design, and storytelling to drive social change. Under Ruth's leadership, the Hub has grown into a space that champions youth empowerment, women's leadership, and community advocacy, values that align seamlessly with Empowerker's mission to merge creativity and activism for lasting impact.

At its core, EmpowerHer champions mental health awareness, menstrual health education, and women's empowerment through creative engagement and community outreach. The initiative works to dismantle stigma, foster dialogue, and build safe spaces where women can thrive socially, emotionally, and economically.
Though rooted in Uganda, EmpowerHer is broadening its borders, building networks and collaborations that connect women across Africa and beyond, nurturing a spirit of shared learning and global sisterhood.

Currently, Empowerher has joined forces with The Art Trap House and Rizz Radio to bring the people of Kampala an inspiring and festive community event, the Jingle Bell Jamboree, designed to raise awareness on mental health and menstrual health, while celebrating art, creativity, and collective purpose during the holiday season.

Driven by authenticity and empathy, EmpowerHer continues to grow as a movement that celebrates womanhood in all its forms, reminding every girl and woman that she is seen, valued, and powerful beyond
measure.
