CHEVAR: The Voice Behind the Movement - Still Deaf Records

CHEVAR: The Voice Behind the Movement - Still Deaf Records

Kingston, Jamaica | 2026
YouTube: ChevarVEVO

In a dancehall scene drowning in noise, Chevar chooses to be heard differently. Artist, label boss, and cultural architect, he's not just making music. He's building Still Deaf Records a media movement for the ones who listen deeper than the crowd.

The Artist
Chevar's sound is grit and grace. Dancehall roots, Kingston energy, but with lyrics that cut past the gimmicks. He's the type of artist who speaks to the streets and the spirit at the same time. His voice carries weight because it's lived-in, tested in booths, soundclashes, and real life.

Fans don't just play his songs. They claim them. Because Chevar raps for the underdog, the believer, the ones who've been overlooked but still tuned in.

The Movement: Still Deaf Records?
The name says it all: Still Deaf. Deaf to the doubt. Deaf to the distractions. Deaf to anyone saying "it can't be done."

What started as a logo, a single ear crowned with headphones, no face became a symbol. That icon is already hitting merch: heavyweight tees, premium hoodies, streetwear that looks like luxury but feels like dancehall. Red burst, gold, emerald, magenta colorways, each drop is intentional.

Still Deaf Records isn't just a label. It's a media movement. Music, merch, visuals, and message all moving together. Chevar's proving you don't need permission from the industry to build culture. You need belief, consistency, and a symbol people can rally behind

Winston Christopher - The Power In The Pencil

Winston Christopher - The Power In The Pencil

Welcome to Behind the Hustle, where we take you beyond the spotlight and into the stories that shape today's most passionate creatives.

This time, we're shining that spotlight on Winston Christopher, a visual artist proudly representing Jacksonville, Florida. Armed with nothing more than patience, imagination, and a set of Prismacolor pencils, Winston transforms blank pages into detailed works of art that demand a closer look. His style blends precision with emotion, proving that even the simplest tools can create something powerful in the right hands.

In this interview, we dive into Winston's creative process, the hustle behind his craft, and the inspiration that keeps his pencils moving. From long hours refining technique to building his voice as an artist, Winston's journey is a reminder that great art is often born from dedication, discipline, and the courage to keep creating.

How did you first get started in drawing?

So, it all started roughly around the age of three. I went to the mom took us to watch the old Christian animated Veggietales movie on the weekend, and the Sunday morning following, I had taken a sharpie (the only writing utensil I had at the time) to draw what I saw in the theater onto the wall. It was extremely detailed, showcasing the events of the film, the cities and characters on full display. Despite the very well deserved chastisement and punishment I received, my mom and dad agreed that I had a talent to create and invested in getting me pencils, paper, coloring books, paint, etc.

What inspired you to choose colored pencils as your primary medium? What inspires
your medium?

Consequently, I think it's the aversion to mediums like graphite, acrylics and oil paints that made me choose pencils and specifically prismacolor pencils as my primary medium. You don't really have much control with these others as you would pencils. They're messy and get everywhere. I feel I am able to create an immense amount of varying pieces with different styles and colors from the pencils since they're easier to control with my hands; I'm not accustomed to strokes with brushes or constant rubbing with graphite/chalk blocks that require edits constantly. With pencils, I can decide how much or how little of the color(s) I want onto the canvas; I can determine the length of the piece I'm creating and control the amount of time it takes to finish it.
The art simply works for me, not me working for it, and I feel other mediums don't give me this type of freedom, if that makes sense.

How has creating online content impacted your artwork?

I'd say online content has played a huge part in the development of my work and the works I create. I've noticed that people have different tastes and preferences to what they consume. And I want to not necessarily conform to the desires of what people are willing to see, but adapt so that I can receive an audience (any audience) that is willing to view all my work and share it. From there, you eventually meet someone who themselves have an audience that they're willing to share your work to. And then those audience members share it and so on and so forth. It brings a domino effect that you can systematically control if you know who to target and whose buttons to push.

What advice do you have to anyone who has a dream of being a successful artist? What
do you advise people who have a dream to do next?

Please, and I sincerely mean this, if you have the desire to create and become a successful artist, victory is already within your grasp. Consistency is the key to the door of success, and what's reserved for you is waiting for you with immense patience. You must push yourself with intense passion to achieve the things you wish to see. Don't be afraid to try new things with your art. Learn to receive, rebuke and give it when it comes to what you create. Not everyone will like what you make, and that's fine, because even you don't like everything everyone creates! Be ready to fail any and every day, because failure and learning from failure is proof of victory not defeat.

What are your dreams and aspirations for your artwork in the next few years?

I know that in the coming months, if not by this year's end, I will be a successful artist director, art curator, an addition to multiple art museums & galleries, and I will be a teacher and animator.
My name will be known to many, and my fame will bring attention to my art and glory to The Most High God, in Jesus' Name.

If you could collaborate with any artist or creator, who would it be and why?

There's so so SO many, so please if you know me and you're reading this and feel left out, I promise I've not forgotten you! But one of the biggest artists I love is @QualityLenz, @Ahnarey, @_Reggo23, and ArtByCheyenne (@ArtsyGirlie) I love the photography and work QL does and he is the inspiration behind a majority of my pieces! I also love hyper realism and attention to detail that Ahna, Reggie and Chey make with their works, and the compositions they choose. It's so fye!

MEET "SCARFACE": THE STREETWEAR REBEL TURNING SCARS INTO STYLE

Uganda's fashion scene is about to experience a cultural shift this holiday season and it's coming straight from the heart of Kampala's streetwear underground. The Jingle Bell Jamboree is proud to spotlight one of the most influential rising creatives in the city: Tenull, also known as Scarface, the mind and soul behind ScarredFaces, the streetwear brand rewriting the definition of style, resilience, and identity.

From Scars to Strength: The Birth of ScarredFaces

For Scarface, fashion isn't just fabric, it's healing.
He launched ScarredFaces with one mission: to transform scars, both visible and hidden, into symbols of strength, confidence, and identity. Every piece he creates is rooted in storytelling, reminding people that their struggles don't break them but that they build them.

"I design clothes that make people feel powerful," he shares. "Every scar holds a story worth wearing with pride."

A Creative Force in Kampala's Streetwear Movement

Having spent years in the streetwear and creative spaces, Scarface has become a recognizable force in the culture. His work blends bold street aesthetics, nostalgic Y2K flair, and a raw artistic edge that you won't find anywhere else in the city. His designs don't whisper-they command attention.

He's more than a designer.
He's a storyteller.
A creative visionary.
A builder of community, one outfit at a time.

Exclusive Pieces Dropping at the Jingle Bell Jamboree

This year, ScarredFaces is coming all out with a lineup of exclusive, high-end streetwear pieces crafted just for the Jingle Bell Jamboree crowd. Expect:

•Baggy Jeans with character - stylish, rugged, and unapologetically Y2K
•Limited-edition designs you won't find anywhere else

Each piece is an invitation to embrace who you are, scars and all.

More Than Fashion. It's a Movement.

What makes Scarface truly stand out is his commitment to community. His brand isn't about chasing trends; it's about empowering people to feel seen, valued, and confident in their uniqueness. In a world that often tells young people to hide their imperfections, ScarredFaces boldly declares:

"Wear your story. Own your scars. Stand out loud."

Catch Scarface Live at the Jingle Bell Jamboree December 20th in Najjera, Uganda. Located at Tavern Breeze Gardens. 12 noon until late. Tickets are 20k ugx and can be purchased on www.arttraphouse.com.

EmpowerHer - Created By Marcie Mawan

EmpowerHer - Created By Marcie Mawan

EmpowerHer is a community-driven initiative based in Uganda, founded by Marcie Mawan, a South Sudanese advocate and creative whose personal journey through anxiety and depression inspired her to create a space where women could heal, express, and grow freely.

Having experienced the importance of mental wellness firsthand, Marcie was moved to turn her pain into purpose to advocate for mental health awareness and to empower her generation to speak openly, seek support, and embrace growth without shame.

EmpowerHer was brought to life through the encouragement and support of a dear friend, Ruth Sanyu Mugabi, whose faith in Marcie's vision strengthened the foundation of the initiative. Partnering through her brand, Ruzz Creative Hub, they launched EmpowerHer's first community outreach in Bweyale at a local primary school. The launch also introduced EmpowerHer's second major initiative, the Menstrual Health Awareness Campaign, an addition that expanded the movement's advocacy from mental health to menstrual health education, aiming to equip young girls with both knowledge and confidence.

Ruzz Creative Hub itself is a dynamic creative platform that uses art, design, and storytelling to drive social change. Under Ruth's leadership, the Hub has grown into a space that champions youth empowerment, women's leadership, and community advocacy, values that align seamlessly with Empowerker's mission to merge creativity and activism for lasting impact.

At its core, EmpowerHer champions mental health awareness, menstrual health education, and women's empowerment through creative engagement and community outreach. The initiative works to dismantle stigma, foster dialogue, and build safe spaces where women can thrive socially, emotionally, and economically.
Though rooted in Uganda, EmpowerHer is broadening its borders, building networks and collaborations that connect women across Africa and beyond, nurturing a spirit of shared learning and global sisterhood.

Currently, Empowerher has joined forces with The Art Trap House and Rizz Radio to bring the people of Kampala an inspiring and festive community event, the Jingle Bell Jamboree, designed to raise awareness on mental health and menstrual health, while celebrating art, creativity, and collective purpose during the holiday season.

Driven by authenticity and empathy, EmpowerHer continues to grow as a movement that celebrates womanhood in all its forms, reminding every girl and woman that she is seen, valued, and powerful beyond
measure

From Mutungo Biina to the World: The Rise of Jolly Jade

In the heart of Kampala, Uganda, one name is steadily rising in the local music scene - Mutagubya Joseph, better known by his stage name Jolly Jade. An artist, rapper, and singer from Mutungo Biina, Jolly Jade represents a new generation of Ugandan talent blending passion, authenticity, and purpose.

Jolly Jade's musical journey began in 2020, shortly after completing Form 6. Though music had always surrounded him, that was the moment he decided to take it seriously. "I grew up in a humble background, and from day one, I've always wanted to use my music to lift my family and inspire my community," he says.

After earning a Bachelor's degree in Drama and Film at Makerere University (MUK), Jade found a deeper understanding of emotion and storytelling - elements that shine through in his songs. His artistry bridges powerful lyricism and melody, a sound he proudly calls melodic rap - "real words, real feelings, but still vibey and musical."

Inspired by Ugandan artists like Nutty Nathan and Binnie Gunter, Jolly Jade began by exploring dancehall but soon carved out his own lane in rap and melodic expression. His music often reflects themes of love, confidence, and growth - speaking directly to anyone chasing a dream from humble beginnings.

His latest project, The Flower Boy, set to release on November 11th - also his birthday - marks a milestone in his artistic journey. "This album is one of my most personal works yet," Jade shares. "It's all about love, emotion, and human connection."

Supported by family, friends, and a growing fanbase, Jolly Jade continues to rise, using his art to empower others to believe in themselves and reach for more.

From Motuongo Biina to the world, Jolly Jade's story is a reminder that no matter where you start, your voice can bloom into something beautiful.

Support Jolly Jade 256 on all streaming platforms as well as LIVE in concert at the Jingle Bell Jamboree in Uganda. December 20th at Tavern Breeze in Najjera, Uganda. Tickets are 20k and are available on Eventbrite under Jingle Bell Jamboree or you can pay at the door
