Nicki Minaj's Mother Files $150 Million Lawsuit Against Two Companies, Alleges They Played A Factor In The Hit-And-Run Death Of The Rapper's Father

Nicki Minaj's mother, Carol Maraj, is continuing to seek justice and compensation over the hit-and-run death of the rapper's father, Robert Maraj.

Robert Maraj was tragically killed earlier this year while crossing the street in New York City. Nicki Minaj remained largely silent on the matter for quite some time, but she released a heartfelt statement on her father's passing last month. The rapper wrote:

"I can't really bring myself to discuss the passing of my father as of yet; I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life. I find myself wanting to call him all the time. More so now that he's gone. Life is funny that way. May his soul rest in paradise. He was very loved & will be very missed."

Eventually, the driver-Charles Polevich-turned himself in to the NYPD. Shortly thereafter, Charles Polevich was sued for $150 million for running over Nicki Minaj's father and fleeing the scene afterward. However, the 70-year-old driver has denied any wrongdoing and wants the case dismissed, claiming Robert Maraj was:

"Reckless, careless and negligent in crossing the street."

Charles Polevich also alleged he fled the scene as a result of a personal emergency. A judge has not yet ruled on his request for the case's dismissal.

However, with the legal system already working on Charles PolevichCarol Maraj has set her sights on holding two companies accountable as well: Keyspan Energy and Robert J. Banker Construction. Carol Maraj claims Keyspan Energy was contracted by the city to replace the lighting at the intersection where Robert Maraj lost his life. She alleges:

"[Robert's death] was due and occasioned by the negligent acts of defendant KEYSTONE, its agents, servants and superiors in the performance of work, maintenance, operation and control of the subject worksite with utter disregard of the result upon the rights and safety of the plaintiff, either alone or in conjunction with its agents."

Similarly, Carol Maraj claims Robert J. Banker Construction was hired to work on the same intersection. However, she alleges that the company's failure to keep a safe worksite contributed to Robert Maraj's death.

As a result, Carol Maraj is seeking $150 million for damages, including her lack of companionship and funeral expenses.
