Damson Idris Teases That He Could Be The Next 'Black Panther' In The MCU

For the past few months, it's been heavily rumored that Snowfall star, Damson Idris, was cast to take on the mantle of the new Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars or following the events of those films. And though he's remained mum on those reports, it seems like he might've just confirmed that is indeed the case.




During a recent appearance on the Today show to promote his upcoming film F1, Idris partook in a game of "Yes or No" with host Craig Melvin. When Melvin asked him if the rumors were true that he was in talks with Marvel about being cast as the next Black Panther, Idris grunted, smiled and responded with a "Yes-No!" When Melvin suggested that a "Yes-No" answer basically meant "Yes," Idris suggested "It could mean no" still with a smile on his face.




Not giving up on the topic, Melvin asked if Marvel offered him the role would he accept it to which Idris bluntly said "Yes."




We're not sure whether or not Marvel is going to take issue with Damson Idris teasing his involvement in the future of the MCU, but we sure wouldn't mind seeing Idris as the new king and protector of Wakanda going forward.




The tease comes weeks after it was rumored that Ryan Gosling was cast to take on the role of the Caucasian Black Panther (which is actually a character in the comic books) for Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, as we're bound to see different superheroes from different realities in the MCU. Though other rumors suggest that Gosling is actually set to play Johnny Blaze aka The Ghost Rider, the notion that Marvel would just give us a white Black Panther out of left field was pretty comedic on its own.




As for how Marvel might work Idris into the fold as the new Black Panther in the MCU, it's more than likely going to be a T'Challa from a different world in the multiverse who finds himself in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe (Earth 616) due to the incursions that will no doubt continue to take place in Doomsday and Secret Wars. There's even rumors that Idris will play the grown up version of T'Challa's son who was introduced at the end of Black Panther 2. So, he might actually be from the 616 universe but from the future. Either way, we can't wait to see him in action.
