Capcom hopes Onimusha: Way of the Sword will take the Onimusha franchise to new heights, similar to what Resident Evil 2 and 4 Remake did for the Resident Evil series. Based on the footage we saw at Summer Game Fest Play Days, there's no reason to believe that won't be the case.
No, we didn't get to play Onimusha: Way of the Sword, but unlike Resident Evil Requiem, which Capcom had us sit in a makeshift theater to marvel at, Way of the Sword was played live by a Capcom dev, compared to Requiem's pre-taped presentation, which was also fine, but for a game Onimusha, playing it live was the best option to present this game to us.
Seeing the game played live allowed us to fully take in Miyamoto Musashi, Way of the Sword's protagonist's skills with his katana blade, and see firsthand just how far this franchise has come since 2001's Onimusha: Warlords.
Source: Capcom / Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Immediately, you realize this game is gorgeous, down to the player models, as we get a good look at Musashi, who is modeled after the legendary Japanese cinema icon Toshiro Mifune.
Way of the Sword Takes Onimusha's Sword Play To A New Level Source: Capcom / Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Musashi's animations with his blade are slow and methodical, but seemingly carry more weight behind them as he strikes down members of the Genma, the race of demons and primary antagonists of the Oniumusha franchise, who look more horrifying than ever.
What stood out was the parry, which triggers a beautiful spark animation as the blades clash. This looked rewarding to see when the developer successfully pulled it off during the brief demo, so we can only imagine how it feels to parry successfully in the game. The developer also showed off Musashi's ability to guard against enemy attacks from any angle.
The parry also allows Musashi to redirect his enemies, for example, after the dev parried a Genma goon and steered him in the direction of a pile of burning debris.
Source: Capcom / Onimusha: Way of the Sword
We also saw Musashi parry one of the bosses, a giant human devouring ogre named Byakue, with ease, another moment that garnered plenty of reactions from the press, including us, who were watching the presentation.
Musashi can also parry projectiles like arrows back at the enemies, which comes in handy when covering the distance between himself and the Genma firing at him.
The Issen strike is also back, but it has two new tweaks: one is a chain attack that allows Musashi to target multiple enemies, and another is called the Issen Break, which enables our hero to target specific body parts during boss battles.
Interactive Surroundings & New Puzzle Feature Source: Capcom / Onimusha: Way of the Sword
In Way of the Sword, Musashi can also use the environment to his advantage. In one part of the demo, the developer showcased a cool mechanic where Musashi flipped over a table and used it as a makeshift shield.
Musashi also encounters dark masses that he can absorb using the Oni Gauntlet, which will give him a glimpse into the past, revealing more of the game's story.
Source: Capcom / Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Another new feature is called Oni Awakening, where Musashi's eye glows gold, allowing him to see what the Genma see, allowing him to solve puzzles he encounters that require him to locate hidden pieces.

The Oni Gauntlet Returns & Musashi Is Not The Only Person Wearing One Source: Capcom / Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Way of the Sword looks to deliver a next-gen version of Onimusha, but one staple of the game remains the same: the Oni Gauntlet. Musashi uses it like the previous wearers, Samanosuke, Jubei, and Jacques, but he's not happy that he has been chosen by it.
He also collects the orbs from fallen Genma fiends using the gauntlet, but in Way of the Sword, there are some twists. In this game, the gauntlet talks to Musashi and is revealed to be an Oni woman.
Also, there seem to be numerous gauntlet wearers. During the demo, the dev took on one of them, Ganryu, a new character who is described as a samurai who embraces his gauntlet, unlike Musashi.
Source: Capcom / Onimusha: Way of the Sword
The dev made short work of Ganyru but reassured us that there will be multiple encounters with Ganyru in the game.
Way of the Sword looks very impressive, and adds to what was a great showing from Capcom at Summer Game Fest.
We can't wait to play this one when it drops in 2026.

The snowflakes are snowflaking.
After California Sen. Alex Padilla approached Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Thursday (June 12) during a press conference that promptly led to him being wrestled to the floor and handcuffed, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson wants Padilla censured.
Johnson might as well consider himself the head of the "Get Along Gang" since he only does want makes President Trump happy. Nothing about Sen. Padilla's approach and or questioning of Noem was inappropriate and definitely didn't warrant censure but that's never stopped Johnson from working to get President Trump's approval.
"I think that that behavior at a minimum rises to the level of a censure," Johnson told reporters, The Hill reports.
"I think there needs to be a message sent by the body as a whole that that is not what we're going to do, that's not what we're going to act."
"We're not going to have branches fighting physically and having senators charging Cabinet secretaries," he added. "We got to do better and I hope that we will."
The incident that quickly made the rounds on social media shows Padilla identifying himself as what appears to be some kind of security guard is pushing him back. He's is taken into a hallway where he is forced to the ground, handcuffed and escorted from the event.
When pressed about whether Padilla should be censured, Speaker Mike Johnson did the thing politicians do where they totally express their opinion and then act as if that opinion that just got finished expressing doesn't matter.
Meanwhile, Johnson is acting like Padilla "Terry Tate'd" Noem. He didn't. He merely said that he had questions for Noem. Padilla did interrupt the press conference Noem was holding in L.A. and that might've been because Padilla is watching his state face the National Guard and Marines over non-violent protest against unjust immigration enforcement.
"I saw the same video, a very brief video, that I think many people did - I think the senator's actions, my view, is it was wildly inappropriate," Johnson said. "You don't charge a sitting Cabinet secretary, and everybody can draw their own conclusions, you can see it's a heated debate here."
Meanwhile, a Congressional censure is the equivalent of a public hand smacking. It's a public admonishment of behavior but it doesn't lead to anything.
Senator Padilla is not in custody and his questions have still not been answered.

It is clear that streamers are the new celebrities. IShowSpeed beat Ashton Hall in back-to-back races resulting in a heated argument.
As spotted on Complex, the media personality and fitness influencer met up in person to decide who is indeed the faster runner. Known for his infamous morning routine video that went viral for all the wrong reasons, Ashton Hall is now a mega influencer in the fitness industry. Surprisingly, IShowSpeed bested him in three consecutive head-to-head races, which visibly frustrated Hall. Speed was ready to leave but Hall wanted another round. "Why are you leaving?" Ashton asked him. "Because I beat you three times," Speed responded, referring to him as "Ashton Fraud."
Speed eventually agreed to run a fourth time and beat hall again. After the event, Ashton went live and admitted defeat. "You win some, you lose some bro," he said. "He beat me fair and square. I did ask him to run it back. Turns out he beat me four times fair and square. I've taken many L's, tons of L's. And the losses have always gotten me to where I want to be."
IShowSpeed has made a name for himself by challenging other celebrities and athletes. In the past he has asked for one-on- one races with Usain Bolt and Sha'Carri Richardson. Back in November, he raced against Noah Lyles only to lose to the 2024 Olympian.

Jay-Z's playoff gamble just took a hit after the Indiana Pacers beat the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, putting the Pacers up 2-1 in the series.
The Thunder's loss didn't just hurt their title hopes; it cost Jay a $1 million bet. Before the Finals started, Jay placed a $1 million wager through Fanatics Sportsbook that the Thunder would take down the Pacers in just five games. That prediction is now impossible, with Indiana already winning two games. As a result, Jay's bet is officially a loss.
If things had gone his way, the Roc Nation founder would've walked away with over $3 million. But while the loss stings, it's not exactly devastating. Jay is a partner in Fanatics Sportsbook, and he's close friends with its founder, Michael Rubin. The two have worked together on several business deals, including the REFORM Alliance, a criminal justice reform group they launched with other big names.
Hov is no stranger to high-stakes gambling either. He's known for throwing invite-only blackjack tournaments, often tied to raising money for REFORM. So while this particular bet didn't go his way, it's more of a blip than a major blow. The Finals are still far from over, and while the Thunder have some work to do, don't expect Jay to stop betting big anytime soon.
In other news, Jay-Z and his wife Beyoncé turned their London concert into a family celebration by giving their twins, Rumi and Sir Carter, a special birthday moment. During night four of the Cowboy Carter tour at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on June 12, which happened to be the twins' 8th birthday, Beyoncé paused the show to shine the spotlight on her youngest kids. Even in the middle of a massive world tour, Beyoncé made sure her kids felt the love, from her and Jay for one night.

Jade Cargill, who is the plot of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, for very obvious reasons, will make her acting debut in the upcoming film True Threat, opposite Jonathan Majors.
Cargill is no stranger to being in front of cameras, as she does so every week when she laces up her wrestling boots and takes out her opponents with her "Jaded" finisher on SmackDown, but in the upcoming film True Threat, she will flex her acting muscles on the big screen.
Deadline exclusively reports that Cargill is the second big name announced for the Harlem-set action thriller directed by Gerard McMurray (The First Purge, Burning Sands) and produced by Alexis Garcia's CAT5 with Charlamagne Tha God, Basil Iwanyk (John Wick, Nobody), and Karen Kinney's under her new banner, Southland Stories.
The Film's Plot Describes A Movie All About Vengeance According to the website, True Threat follows Special Forces operative Vernon Threat (Majors), who returns home and wants justice for his murdered son at the hands of Harlem's Apollo Kids gang. Threat infiltrates The Carter (yes, the same Carter from New Jack City) that is controlled by the gang and fights his way floor by floor, taking out boss after boss until he confronts the gang's leader, who also happens to be his former mentor, Shadow.
In the film, Cargill will play Meeka, a key lieutenant in the Apollo Kids and one of the film's main villains. She will control the red light district in The Carter and also operates as a "power broker" in the building.
Per Deadline, the role will see Cargill "in an intense, physical and highly stylized performance space that builds on her athletic background."
We can't wait to see Cargill in action.

Father's Day is this Sunday (June 15), and hopefully, folks have already gotten the dads in their lives a proper gift. But in case Dad is into cannabis, we've whipped together a new gift guide that might help inform your choices.
As I always like to share with readers, cannabis has transformed my life for the better by providing me with a variety of ways to consume products. Further, the innovation that some of the brands we're featuring is astounding. I sometimes have trouble falling asleep, and there are brands out there addressing those who suffer from sleeplessness. As someone who struggles with ADHD, there are even products that bring life into focus.
I don't want to come off too square here as I believe that we should also enjoy cannabis for relaxing and leisure, and do so responsibly. As much as I am a cannabis enthusiast, I do not encourage overindulgence. However, I believe in finding products that work best in one's life, and I hope this gift guide will help you find the right path. You'll see some familiar brands from past coverage, and we thank them for allowing us to highlight their wares.
In full transparency, I wanted to get this guide up earlier in the week, but life got in the way as it typically does. There will be opportunities for interviews, profiles, and even reviews in the coming months. The next roundup I'll do will be Halloween, then onto the Thanksgiving holiday, then closing the year out with a holiday-themed guide.
Please check out our latest cannabis gift guide, and Happy Father's Day to all the dope dads out there.

Despite having a very rocky relationship with Starz, 50 Cent continues to land original programming with the network.
Starz announced it has greenlit a new original show called Fightland, which the cable network describes as a "high-octane scripted drama set in the cutthroat, high-stakes, cash-rich world of British boxing."
Fightland also marks another collaboration between Starz and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson through his G-Unit Film & Television, who serves as an executive producer on the show.
Starz has ordered eight episodes of the show with production set to begin in London this fall.
"Fightland" follows a disgraced, formerly incarcerated boxing champion who returns to London to seek vengeance against the crime family he thinks betrayed him. With edge-of-seat action and populated by dangerous characters, this is a world of money and power never seen before.
50 Cent Anticipates Fightland Being More Popular Than Anything He's Done Before
"Fightland marks my first internationally produced show through my G-Unit Film & Television. I am excited to bring that global energy to the screen," said Executive Producer Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. "I anticipate this to be more successful than anything I've done before-boxing's raw stakes are gonna take it to another level." "Set against the backdrop of the British boxing underground, this series promises to be the perfect combination of character and adrenaline," said Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming for STARZ. "' Fightland' is the kind of unapologetically visceral, premium storytelling that STARZ is known for, and we believe that each dramatic round of this compelling drama will leave fans wanting more."
50 Cent saying he expects Fightland to be more successful than anything he's done before demonstrates the confidence he has in this show.
Power, the first Starz series he was a part of, created by Courtney A. Kemp, is currently one of Starz's most popular original series ever.
He also has BMF, which is currently in its 4th season, and is also popular among television viewers.
However, there is also tension between the Queens rapper and the network, which often seems to reach a boiling point, with the "In Da Club" rapper threatening to pull his shows off the channel.
We shall see if that remains the case when Fightland arrives.

Streamer Kai Cenat and rapper Wale found themselves in 2025-worthy non-controversy during and after the 2025 BET Awards on Monday night (June 9). After Kai ran into Wale but had seemingly had no idea who he was, he says to blame his youth, not his heart, basically.
As previously reported, Wale was playing on his Nintendo Switch and ran into Kai Cenat. But, while streaming live, Kai asked "What he do?" and had to be hipped that it was a rapper, while also mispronouncing said MC's name. Social media loves a controversy and the chirping commenced, but Wale added gas to the moment by later approaching Kai on quiet (not really), and saying their previous hallway interactions was making him look "crazy."
However, Kai was mic'd up and the audio came in crystal clear to the entire world. Add Wale's alleged history of "sensitivity" to the mix and a faux-controversy was launched.
Fast forward to Thursday (June 12), and Kai Cenat is claiming it's his age that caused the Wale ignorance.
"I'ma go ahead and say to Wale, umm, I hope he didn't take my interaction personal, ya feel me...how can you blame me from just being who I am? You feel me? I'm young!," said Kai on his chat.
After proceeding to play Wale's hit with Miguel "Lotus Flower Bomb," Kai added, after noting he knows the song, "2011? I was nine years old."
Many people pointed to Kai's youth off the rip. But many are also unconvinced, considering being aware of pop culture goes with his streamer lifestyle/gig. But also, as Wale has noted, they have met and interacted before.
Also, if Kai is into J. Cole and Drake as he has claimed, how are you not familiar with Wale? All that to say, expect Wale to be streaming with Kai Cenat before the summer is up. Probably.
Are you buying what Kai Cenat is selling? Check out reactions in the gallery.

According to reports, The Roots' lead MC Black Thought is writing and planning to direct a new film, teaming up with his bandmate Questlove on the project. The unnamed film is planned to be powered by the 360-degree immersive platform WonderRoom with the hopes that it "drops audiences into Hip-Hop's soul," with its narrative.
Black Thought, aka Tariq Trotter, is partnering with the Impossible Creative studio, who has been behind several immersive experiences in cities across the globe. On their website, they describe their mission in creating those spaces as "designing, filming and mastering 360° experiences that cross an illusory threshold - where a room's walls, ceiling and floor disappear, giving audiences the experience of being there, of infinite perspective in all directions." Questlove and Shawn Gee of Two One Five Entertainment are signed on as producers of the film.
"I'm grateful to Impossible Creative for entrusting me with their technology in bringing my latest project to the world." the Grammy Award-winning rapper said in a statement about the project. "Hip-Hop has a rich and beautiful history, and by creating a space where audiences play a role and physically live out its greatest moments, the potential for a better understanding of the genre and its roots increases significantly."
"Working with Tarik and the team at Two One Five is a dream come true. Tarik's stunning vision will allow audiences to feel the music, stories, and culture of Hip-Hop come alive around them in a way that's never been experienced before," said David Galpern, Impossible Creative's co-founder and producer.
FanX Studios Chief Operating Officer Jonathan Schwartz will serve as executive producer and provide oversight for Impossible Creative, and Josh Williams will also oversee the film project for Two One Five. Impossible Creative is eyeing next spring for the premiere to take place in New York City.
The film world is nothing new for Black Thought and Questlove. Black Thought has numerous acting credits to his name, including HBO's The Deuce dramatic series, 2010's Night Catches Us and the 2014 James Brown biopic Get On Up. Questlove won an Academy Award for Summer of Soul, and is also the producer of the documentary Sly Lives! on the recently deceased rock pioneer Sly Stone.

Atlanta rapper Silentó has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the aggravated manslaughter of his cousin, Frederick Rooks III, and other charges related to the 2021 shooting.
DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announced in a news release on Wednesday that Silentó, born Ricky Lamar Hawk, pleaded guilty but mentally ill to charges of voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and concealing the death of another. According to the Associated Press, a murder charge was dropped as part of a plea agreement.
For those who are unfamiliar with the downfall of the "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)" artist and the violent death of his cousin, here's a quick rundown as reported by AP:
DeKalb County police found Frederick Rooks III shot in the leg and face in the early morning hours of Jan. 21, 2021 outside a home in a suburban area near Decatur. Police said they found 10 bullet casings near Rooks' body, and security video from a nearby home showed a white BMW SUV speeding away shortly after the gunshots.
A family member of Rooks told police that Silentó had picked up Rooks in a white BMW SUV, and GPS data and other cameras put the vehicle at the site of the shooting.
Silentó confessed about 10 days later after he was arrested, police said. Ballistics testing matched the bullet casings to a gun that Silentó had when he was arrested, authorities said.
In 2020, Silentó, who was a high school junior in 2015 when he released his "Watch Me" smash hit, had been involved in a number of run-ins with the law, some of which involved violence allegedly threatened or committed against others.
In August 2020, he was arrested in Santa Ana, California, on a domestic violence charge. The next day, in Los Angeles, he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon after witnesses said he entered a stranger's home looking for his girlfriend, who wasn't there, and swung a hatchet at two people before he was disarmed.
In 2019, he made an appearance on the medical talk show The Doctors, where he discussed struggling with depression and witnessing violence and mental illness among his family members growing up.
"I've been fighting demons my whole life, my whole life," he said.
