First Episode of Marvel Animations' 'Eyes of Wakanda' Premieres At France's Annecy Animation Festiva

The first episode of the Black Panther animated spin-off, Eyes of Wakanda, premiered during a panel at the Annecy Animation Festival.







Spotted on Variety, the series director, Todd Harris, introduced the episode titled "Into The Lions Den" before a Q&A session took place on June 9.




Harris, who previously worked as a story artist on Black Panther and its sequel Wakanda Forever, revealed the show followed an "anthology adjacent" format.




The website notes that the episode is the first of four in the series, set in 1260 B.C., and will follow a Wakandan secret agent who is also a disgraced former Dora Milage, voiced by model and actress Winnie Harlow.




Noni is on the hunt for a man named Lion (Cress Williams), who defected from the Wakandan guard to lead a band of pirates, stealing technology from the advanced nation in hopes of establishing his own kingdom.




She tracks him down in Crete and faces his crew of pirates, a diverse group of fighters from around the world.




Harris further described the show's premise, revealing that each of the 30-minute episodes will feature a character trying to retrieve Wakandan artefacts and will feature familiar Marvel characters.

Per Variety:

Following this adventure is a brief establishment of the overall premise of the show: "hop-scotching through centuries" in four self-contained stories following Wakandan agents as they retrieve different artefacts stolen from their nation. "It's mostly a spy story," Harris said, continuing to describe each of these episodes as a study in seeing the reaction of these agents to the real world, "balancing what they see with their nationalist agenda."




Each of the 30-minute episodes will take place across different time periods, following different artefacts taken. But there is some continuity, as the impact of the Lion's actions will apparently be felt across all of that time. Harris also teased some form of familiar Marvel characters making appearances: "There will be an Iron Fist in here, and not the Iron Fist you expect."
