Judge, Yankees Reach Mega-Deal

Judge, Yankees Reach Mega-Deal

Aaron Judge, the reigning American League Most Valuable Player Award winner and the top free agent available this offseason, made his free-agent decision on Wednesday morning, returning to the New York Yankees on a nine-year pact that will pay him $360 million. Judge's contract ranks as one of the five most lucrative in Major League Baseball history, be it in terms of total value or an average annual value. While the bidding for Judge was expected to come down to the Yankees and the San Francisco Giants, there was a surprising addition to the mix. The San Diego Padres, authors of ample blockbuster deals in recent years, were not only involved in the process, they reportedly made a larger offer than the one Judge took, according to Brendan Kuty of NJ.com. USA Today reports the Padres offered Judge a 10-year, $400 million deal, and this marks the second time in a matter of days that the Padres made a top free agent a larger bid only to see them sign elsewhere.

Bulls Lose to Kings

Bulls Lose to Kings

Malik Monk scored 20 points off the bench and the Sacramento Kings overcame Zach LaVine's 41 points to beat the Chicago Bulls 110-101 on Sunday. Domantas Sabonis had 11 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists for the Kings. Monk has scored 20 or more points six times this season for Sacramento (13-9). The Kings have won three straight after a three-game skid. This is Sacramento's best 22-game start since the 2004-05 season. The Kings started 15-7 that season. The Kings have won 11 of their last 16 games.
LaVine scored 15 points in the third quarter to cut into the Kings' 18-point lead. The Bulls cut it to two points in the fourth quarter. Harrison Barnes had 17 points, Kevin Huerter added 12 and rookie Keegan Murray finished with 11. All five Kings starters scored in double figures. Nikola Vucevic had 12 points and Patrick Williams finished with 10 for Chicago. Williams started in place of Javonte Green, who didn't play because of right knee soreness.

Bears Lose to Packers

Bears Lose to Packers

Aaron Rodgers led three fourth-quarter scoring drives, receiver Christian Watson took an end-around 46 yards for a touchdown in the closing minutes after Jaire Alexander intercepted Justin Fields, and the Green Bay Packers rallied to beat the Chicago Bears 28-19 on Sunday. The Packers (5-8) looked like they were on their way to another loss after dropping seven of eight, trailing 19-10 through three quarters. But they made enough plays down the stretch to come away with their eighth straight win over the Bears (3-10), who lost their sixth straight. AJ Dillon ran for a 21-yard touchdown in the opening minute of the fourth and Mason Crosby kicked a 32-yard field goal to give Green Bay a 20-19 lead with just under five minutes left.

LeBron Passes Magic for 6th All Time in Assists

LeBron James moved past Magic Johnson for sixth place on the NBA's all-time assists list as the Los Angeles Lakers took a hard earned 133-129 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. The Lakers great's ninth assist in the game, which came in the fourth quarter, with James finding Anthony Davis for a three pointer on the right wing, saw him surpass Johnson's 10,141. With star forward Davis scoring 44 points, along with 10 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks, and James adding 28 points, the Lakers managed to hold off the Bucks. James finished the match with 11 assists in total, taking his tally to 10,144. "It means a lot, obviously," James said, of surpassing Johnson's assists, according to NBA.com. "The way Magic approached the game, it was very infectious. His teammates loved playing with him because of the joy he played with and the ability to pass the ball and get other guys involved. He was always excited about seeing his teammates be great. I always admired that in him."

Blackhawks Lose to Oilers

Blackhawks Lose to Oilers

The Blackhawks' third-period rally Wednesday against the Oilers shared some similarities with the Stars' epic third-period rally against the Hawks last Wednesday. But that Stars' rally succeeded. The Hawks' rally did not. And both games ultimately resulted in regulation losses for the Hawks, whose 5-4 defeat against Edmonton marked their eighth straight and 14th in their last 16 games. Max Domi and MacKenzie Entwistle scored 19 seconds apart to cut the Oilers' lead to 4-3 with seven minutes left, then Domi scored again to cut the Oilers' lead to 5-4 with 71 seconds left, and the Hawks generated a golden chance for Taylor Raddysh to tie the game with 13.9 seconds left. But Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner made the save and the visitors held on.

Bears Lose to Jets

Bears Lose to Jets

On a rainy afternoon in North New Jersey, the New York Jets got back on track by defeating the Chicago Bears 31-10 in Week 12. In a battle of backup quarterbacks, Mike White got the better of Trevor Siemian, and by a lot. White completed 22-of-28 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns. The first two scores each went to rookie wide receiver Garrett Wilson, giving him two more scores from White in this game than he had in seven games with Zach Wilson under center. White also found second-year receiver Elijah Moore for a touchdown, his first score since Week 13 of last season. Siemian, who reportedly injured his oblique during pregame warmups and was rumored to not be starting, got off to a nice start to the game by completing 8-of-11 passes for 127 yards and a score prior to halftime. He couldn't get much going in the second half, though, and the Jets' defensive front repeatedly had him under siege. He finished just 6 of 14 for 52 yards and an interception in the second half.
