THREE WAYS TO STAND OUT AT THE NEXT CHURCH YOU'RE INVITED TO (+ VIDEO OF MINISTRY ENGAGEMENT)

It's easy to think that it's all about the music; that everything comes down to how tight our vocals, BGVs (background vocalists), and musicians are. Sure, we understand that everything we do is about our Heavenly Father, but let's be real, we want to sound good and receive a great response from those we are ministering to. Sunday I celebrated #ilovemychurch month with Living Waters in Collingdale, PA. It was an honor and when the Pastor spoke to me after service, I was floored by one thing he said.

?Here are three things I picked up from Sunday:

GRAPHIC TEE +PRINTED MAXI SKIRT

GRAPHIC TEE +PRINTED MAXI SKIRT

I LOVE color, I mean I LOOOOOVE color, lol. It is the easiest way to make a statement with clothing. Today I ministered at the Delmarva Gospel Explosion and I wanted to rock one of my t-shirts. I went to Shernilla Cox of Netoure's Creations and asked her if she would be able to pull of a skirt with flair and flow. She did...in less than 12 hours, lol.

10 TIPS EVERY INDIE ARTIST NEEDS TO KNOW FOR THE BEST STUDIO RECORDING SESSION EVER!

If you're an indie artist I'm sure there is a part of you that can't wait to get into the studio, right? Here are a few tips for you to be able to slay your session!

My first time in the studio was terrifying and it took me almost three hours to sing a five minute song. My second time in the studio, I was so nervous that I cried and my teary voice could be heard on the recording...so I had to do the same song again, lol.
1. PRACTICE AND MASTER YOUR SONGPractice really does make perfect...or more efficient. The studio is not the time to actually practice how you want to record a song. Walk into the studio ready. Keep in mind that time is money. You will be paying for every hour you are in the studio. I made the mistake of thinking that my paid time did not begin until I was actually in front of the microphone, and that wasn't the case. We do this for ministry, but there is always business side.

7 DIFFERENT TYPES OF WORSHIP SONGS TO WRITE (WORSHIP SONGWRITING PT.2)

I am often asked how I go about writing my songs, and one of the first things I consider is the TYPE of song I want to write. Music is powerful as it appeals to multiple senses at the same time - we hear it, feel it, and depending on the emotion of a song it can transport us to a different time so we, "see it."

I truly believe that whenever you write a song you should be intentional about what you are doing. I have written a few songs in my day (smile). Some songs come to me in a few minutes, others may take months to complete. Regardless of the time, I am very intentional. Songwriting goes beyond a song being categorized as a "Praise" or "Worship," song. I decide if the song is going to teach, celebrate, declare war, invite, or encourage.  So, let's explore seven different types of songs.

HOW TO ROCK YOUR FIRST TELEVISION MINISTRY EXPERIENCE

So, I woke up this morning and realized that exactly one month ago I was in Atlanta prepping for my first national television experience! What an incredible experience to travel and share the airwaves with Dr. Kishma George and Evangelist Trina Seymour

As you can imagine for everything that went amazingly right, there were many things that went wrong (that's a story for another day, lol). I am grateful that everything that was right had to do with the television appearance. I'm going to share a few things that you can do to prepare for your first/next television experience!

HOW TO LEGALLY RECORD COVER SONGS

HOW TO LEGALLY RECORD COVER SONGS

As an artist, there is a certain joy that comes with making something from scratch and calling it your own. I mean, to see the creation and fulfillment of something that started off in your mind is an amazing feeling.

While it is always a point to make original music for the masses, there are times that you want to give your take to classic hit songs. Because we live in a world where anything is possible, you have the liberty to record a cover song and to legally make money from it.

So let's review some elements to understand this process better.

Should You Write Worship Songs? (Worship Songwriting Pt.1)

I grew up in a house where music did not have an ethnicity, age... it was Kingdom music. At any given time you might hear, Shirley CaeserAmy GrantVicki Winans, or Sandi Patty. Back then, it didn't matter to me if a song was classified as Gospel or Contemporary Christian, I was captivated by the lyrics and how they made me feel.
I say, "Kingdom Music," because at the end of the day, what we sing and write should be to build the Kingdom of God. One genre is not better than the other when we concern ourselves with the message.

Folks will often approach me and talk about the songs swimming in their head and many express not feeling, "good enough," to write their own songs. I wanted to start this songwriter series to share how I write my songs as well as to encourage you to dive into the depths of your heart and do the same.

Hi-Lo Maxi Dress #SUNDAYSLAY

This has to be one of my favorite pieces in my closet. It's modest enough to wear to church or ministry engagements, and casual enough to wear to family functions.
This Spense Hi-Lo Maxi Dress came from JcPenny last year. The fabric is breathable and the train flows elegantly as I walk.
