Warriors Return to NBA Finals

Warriors Return to NBA Finals

The Golden State Warriors are heading back to the NBA Finals for the sixth time in eight seasons. They punched their ticket on Thursday night with a comfortable 120-110 win over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals to win the series, 4-1. Now, the Warriors will await the winner of the Eastern Conference finals between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat.
Klay Thompson turned back the clock with his best game of the series, pouring in eight 3-pointers and 32 points to lead the way. Six different Warriors scored in double figures, including Andrew Wiggins, who went for 18 points and 10 rebounds in another strong performance. The Warriors also shot the ball well from downtown, going 14 of 36.

White Sox Lose to Red Sox

White Sox Lose to Red Sox

Trevor Story kept up his hot hitting with a three-run homer and four RBI, and the Boston Red Sox beat the White Sox 16-7 Thursday night to take two of three from Chicago. Story has seven homers and 21 RBI in his last seven games, raising his season totals to nine homers and 32 RBI.
"Controlling my zone has been huge and not missing my pitch when I get it - that's been the key," Story said. "When I get my pitch and take my swing at it, I want the-at-bat to end right there. I've done a better job at it lately."
The 29-year-old remembered being this hot at the plate during a spurt when he first broke in with Colorado in 2016.

Cubs Get Blown Out By Reds

Cubs Get Blown Out By Reds

Needing a win to split the series the Cincinnati Reds split an atom and exploded for 20 runs as they took the Chicago Cubs to task in a 20-5 win. On a day with 20 runs you'd imagine several players stood out, and they did. Kyle Farmer went 4-4 with two home runs and drove in five, while Nick Senzel reached base six times for the first time in his career.
After trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the second inning, the Reds put two runs on the board on a Kyle Farmer 2-run homer. The next inning saw them score eight runs as they sent 11 batters to the plate. Matt Reynolds 2-run triple really put the game away, making it a 9-3 ballgame.

Cubs Lose to Reds

Cubs Lose to Reds

Joey Votto homered and tripled, then shouted at Cubs reliever Rowan Wick during a tense ending to the Cincinnati Reds' 4-3 win over Chicago on Wednesday night. Votto had a solo homer in the second inning off Kyle Hendricks (2-5) and a two-run triple in the third as Cincinnati snapped a two-game skid. Wick brushed back the 16-year veteran in the eighth, then walked him. Votto barked at Wick as he made his way to first base, and he also had words for Chicago's dugout. Wick said he didn't appreciate the way Votto flipped his bat following the walk.

The Boston Celtics are one win away from the NBA Finals after a convincing 93-80 road win over the Miami Heat in Game 5. After trailing by five points at the half, they turned in a strong defensive performance in the second half, outscoring the Heat 56-38 to take a 3-2 series lead. Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 25 points, while Jayson Tatum added 22 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists. Al Horford provided a spark in the paint, adding 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Bulls' LaVine has Successful Surgery

Bulls' LaVine has Successful Surgery

Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on his left knee on Tuesday in Los Angeles. The team announced the surgery was successful and that LaVine is expected to make a full recovery. LaVine, who will become an unrestricted free agent this summer, managed discomfort in his knee for most of the second half of the season, after he landed awkwardly grabbing a rebound against the Golden State Warriors on Jan. 14. LaVine flew to Los Angeles just before the All-Star break to visit Dr. Neal ElAttrache - who performed LaVine's ACL surgery in 2017 and Tuesday's procedure - and received a platelet-rich plasma therapy, a cortisone shot and had fluid drained from his left knee to continue playing the rest of the season. He missed 13 of the team's final 43 games for maintenance on his knee.

Cubs Beat Reds

Cubs Beat Reds

Cubs rookie Chris Morel, who debuted last week with a home run in his first big-league at-bat, pulled off a 118-year first for the Cubs Monday night as soon as he took the field against the Reds. Morel, who singled and scored in the Cubs' three-run seventh Monday night, started for the Cubs at shortstop in the opener of the four-game series, his fourth defensive position in five career big-league starts. Morel also has started at third base, second base and centerfield. Only one other player in modern franchise history (since 1901) has done that: Solly Hofman in 1904 (thanks to Cubs historian Ed Hartig for the research). Hofman's first four games as a Cub that year were starts at short, left, center and right. "I can play everywhere," said Morel, who finished Monday's 7-4 victory at second base. "I just want to make sure I play good and play for my team. No matter what position I play, I need to play good." Morel didn't have the Cubs' only impressive flex on Monday. Patrick Wisdom, last year's slugging rookie surprise, hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning Monday, the fourth consecutive game in which he has homered. The last Cub to do that was Anthony Rizzo in 2015. Celtics Take Game 4 vs. Heat

Celtics Take Game 4 vs. Heat

The Eastern Conference finals is now tied after the Boston Celtics dominates the Miami Heat in Game 4 to grab a 102-82 win Monday night. It was never really close, as Boston capitalized off Miami's shooting struggles to carry a commanding 24-point lead into halftime and never looked back from there. Jayson Tatum led the way for the Celtics with 31 points, eight rebounds and five assists, but it was really a team effort as four of Boston's five starters scored in double figures. Victor Oladipo shouldered the scoring load for the Heat as he finished with 23 points. The Heat struggled all night long to get anything going on offense, and as a result they'll now head back to Miami with the series tied at two games apiece. Game 5 will take place on Wednesday in Miami as both sides try to gain an advantage in a back-and-forth battle.
