Kobe Bryant Revealed As Final NBA 2K21 Athlete Cover

The final of three NBA 2K21 cover athletes was revealed on Thursday, and that athlete is the late, great Kobe Bryant. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar, who died in a tragic helicopter crash along with his daughter, Gianna, and seven others in January, is even getting his very own edition of the game. He'll be gracing the cover of the Mamba Forever edition, which is replacing the Legend edition. Bryant appeared on the cover of the Legend edition for NBA 2K17.

Cubs' Jose Quintana Hurt Washing Dishes, Has Surgery

Chicago Cubs left-hander José Quintana had surgery to repair nerve damage in his pitching thumb Thursday after he cut himself washing dishes.Chicago did not have a timetable for his return.
Quintana cut his thumb at his home in Miami on Saturday and needed five stitches, according to the team. He had surgery in Chicago on Thursday morning.

Inmate Backed By WNBQ's Maya Moore Gains Release

Four-time WNBA champion Maya Moore sat out for an entire season to help overturn the conviction of Jonathan Irons, who she said was wrongfully serving a 50-year prison sentence.On Wednesday, Irons walked out a free man -- and Moore was one of the first to embrace him. "Thank God it's over," Moore said in a video of Irons' release she posted on her Instagram, captioned with the word "FREEDOM."

NFL Shortens 2020 Preseason To 2 Weeks

The NFL is planning to cut the preseason in half, from four games to two, as part of a larger plot for the league to combat the coronavirus pandemic. ESPN reported Wednesday the NFL is cancelling Weeks 1 and 4 of the preseason schedule. Last week, the league also cancelled the Hall of Fame game on Aug. 8.

Kobe Bryant Documentary 'Mamba Out'

After Michael Jordan's The Last Dance aired in April, there were multiple reports about a Kobe Bryant documentary being released soon. As per recent reports, a new documentary on the NBA legend called Mamba Out will be aired from Sunday, July 5. The documentary will focus on Bryant's 2009-10 season, his last NBA title for the Los Angeles Lakers before he retired in 2016.

Sky's Jantel Lavender Out For Season After Foot Surgery

Sky forward Jantel Lavender will miss the season after having surgery on her left foot, the team announced Tuesday night. Lavender, who is in the final year of her contract, had the same surgery last August. She'll be paid her full salary of $117,000 for the season.

Adam Silver:  On Track But Virus Spread May Stop NBA

With coronavirus cases on the rise in the United States and some teams recently closing their facilities due to positive cases, NBA commissioner Adam Silver remains "pretty confident" about the NBA's plan to safely resume play but admits that a spread in the NBA community could bring the league to a halt again. During an appearance on TIME 100 Talks, Silver was asked if there is any chance the NBA doesn't go to Orlando, Florida, as planned due to the surge in coronavirus cases or if it is full steam ahead to resume play at the end of July.
