J. COLE EARNS FIRST DIAMOND PLAQUE AS 'MIDDLE CHILD' HITS MASSIVE SALES MILESTONE

J. Cole has finally earned his first-ever diamond plaque as his 2019 song "Middle Child" has reached an impressive milestone.

A record receives diamond certification from the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) when it sells 10 million certifiable units in the U.S., with Cole achieving the feat for the first time with the 2019 hit.

Despite hitting eight-figure sales, "Middle Child" never topped the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at No. 26 and peaking a week later at No. 4.

It has, however, gone on to become one of Cole's most enduring songs.

It was previously reported two years ago that his 2014 track "No Role Modelz" had passed 10 million units but the song was never officially certified diamond by the RIAA.

With the certification, J. Cole joins an esteemed list of Hip Hop stars who already possess diamond plaques.

Eminem leads the way among rappers with six in total. Three are for his albums The Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show and Curtain Call: The Hits, while the other three are for the singles "Lose Yourself," "Not Afraid" and the Rihanna collaboration "Love the Way You Lie."

Drake, 2Pac, Kanye West, Cardi B and JAY-Z also have multiple diamond records each, with Hov just recently earning his third for "Empire State of Mind."

Among all genres, Post Malone currently holds the record for most diamond singles with nine, followed by Rihanna and The Weeknd with seven each.

J. Cole's entry into the diamond club means he has pipped "Big Three" rival Kendrick Lamar to the post, despite him previously admitting that he felt inferior to the Compton rap star, as well as Drake.

"Some people say I'm running third / They threw the bronze at me / Behind Drake and Dot / Yeah, them n-ggas is superstars to me," he rapped on his 2021 track "Heaven's EP."

The North Carolina native also bowed out of his recent rap battle with Kendrick after dissing him on "7 Minute Drill," dividing opinion among rap fans and fellow rappers.

He boldly apologized to his "Forbidden Fruit" collaborator onstage at his Dreamville Festival in April, saying he felt "blessed to even stand beside [Kendrick and Drake], let alone chase their greatness.

ICE SPICE CLAIMS LATTO BEEF IS ONE-SIDED: 'IT'S A JOKE THAT SHE'S DRAGGED OUT'

Ice Spice has made the bold claim that her ongoing beef with Latto is entirely one-sided.

Speaking to Rolling Stone ahead of her new album Y2K!, which dropped on Friday (July 26), the Bronx rap star addressed her rumbling rivalry with her Atlanta contemporary.

Asked about the feud, Ice Spice responded: "I feel like if we ever spoke and I asked her 'What's the issue?' it'd be like a blank stare. It'd really be no issue whatsoever. Especially from me.

"I can understand a friendly competition, but I just feel like at this point it's a joke that she's just dragged out, and it's just not even funny."

She also suggested that she's living rent free in Latto's head: "Like, bro, 'Think U the Shit' is from January. You're going to post a piece of shit cake to announce something that's good news for you?

"But it is kind of a compliment because you're taking something that's supposed to be a fun moment for you and you're making it about me ... again."

Latto recently said in a magazine cover story of her own that she doesn't view Ice Spice as a willing opponent when it comes to a rap battle.

She told Billboard: "If I was to do [a battle], it would have to be with somebody I feel like I'ma go tit for tat with. I really don't mean it as shade. Would she even want to do that?

"I feel like she's doing her in her lane. It's two different types of vibes. I don't even think she gives me like, 'Oh, she wants to engage in an actual rap beef.'"

After Spice released "Think U the Shit (Fart)," which included a thinly-veiled reference to Latto's hit single "Put It On Da Floor," the Sweet Honey Iced Tea MC hit back with her own song, "Sunday Service."

On the track, she rapped: "Think I'm the shit, bitch, I know it, ho / Jesus walked on water, I got ice boilin' though."

The song also featured several other lines aimed at the "Munch" hitmaker including: "These bitches corny, soon as monkey see, then you know monkey do / Do you rap or do you tweet? / 'Cause I can't tell, get in the booth, bitch" and "I just want a one-on-one, don't know why she so nervous.

TORY LANEZ STUNS FANS WITH SOUND QUALITY OF NEW 'PRISON TAPES' SONGS

Tory Lanez has released new music from behind bars - but they aren't your typical prison songs.

On Friday (July 26), the incarcerated rapper kickstarted his recently announced Prison Tapes series by dropping two new tracks, "Cell 245" and "Wish I Never Met You."

The former opens with an automated message from a prison phone call and finds Tory reflecting on his past adversity and the spoils of his success over a hard-hitting beat.

"Shootouts gave me PTSD, that's the damage that it did / I'm talking hammers at the crib, I'm talking hammers at my grandma's house / She in the kitchen cooking, finding hammers in the counters, real steppa," he raps.

The latter, which begins with the same audio recording, showcases Lanez's softer side as he sings about becoming entangled in a toxic relationship over an Afrobeats-flavored instrumental.

"I can't lie, I just wish I'd never met you in the first place / Damn, why you had to come and kiss me in the first place? / Damn, why we had to even mix it in the first place? / Damn, then w went ahead and slid into third base / And I wish I'd n ver ever met you in the first place," he sings on the hook.

However, it wasn't the lyrics or the production that caught fans' attention, but the sound quality of the songs considering they were recorded behind prison walls.

"Tory Lanez really got some crazy quality on this song. You dead can't even tell he did this over a prison phone," one impressed listener wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Another said: "How is Tory lanez song quality this good from jail[.] he wasn't lying he cracked the code," while a third fan joked: "They gave Tory Lanez a whole studio."

When announcing his Prison Tapes series earlier this week, Tory claimed to have "cracked the code" when it comes to attaining a studio-level sound from behind bars.

"After about 20-something to 30-something fuck-ups and mistakes, me and my engineer have finally figure out how to record music over the jail phone and still keep the quality as professional as I had it on the street," he said in a recorded call posted on Instagram.

"It's over. I done cracked the fucking code, man. This means that not even these prison walls can stop me from dropping new music. It's crazy!"

He added: "That being said, I'm about to start dropping hot heaps of coal on y'all head top. I'm dropping the all new 'Free Tory' playlist - it's gon' be updated every week with new music that I'm recording from prison in real time.

"This is the first of its kind and although God has already shown me that this moment is only temporary, it speaks testimony to the fact that no matter where they put me they can't lock down my spirit, my ambition, my soul my passion nor my destiny!"

Tory Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence after being found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion during a drunken dispute in July 2020.

He has repeatedly maintained his innocence and recently filed a second appeal of his sentence

Ain't No Stopping Us Now Was One Of R&B Legendary Songs

"Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" is a 1979 disco song performed by American R&B duo McFadden & Whitehead, from their debut album McFadden & Whitehead. They wrote and produced the song along with keyboard player Jerry Cohen.
"Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" is about succeeding despite having faced previous disadvantages ("so many things that held us down"). It was widely interpreted to be about the experience of the African American community, and after attaining popularity, became referred to as "the new black national anthem" (the original being the 1900 song "Lift Every Voice and Sing").
Kelefa Sanneh noted the song was, "an exuberant number often interpreted as an expression of Black pride", but also that the authors of the song were in a dispute over royalties with their record label Philadelphia International. Whitehead said, "If anything, the song was a declaration of our independence from Gamble.
Despite being seen as social commentary, in an interview conducted by Philadelphia video producer Bob Lott, Whitehead and McFadden revealed that the song was actually about their frustration with Philadelphia International owners Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, who for many years preferred that they remain as house songwriters and not performers. Gamble has confirmed that upon first hearing "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now", he tried unsuccessfully to convince McFadden and Whitehead to give the song to the O'Jays, as he felt it was better to write and produce for the prominent recording artists of the day than to try to compete with them as on-stage performers.
This song features a female chorus in the repeated refrain. Electronic beeping feedback sounds are heard towards the ending of the longer version of the song.
Released as the lead single from the album, the song spent a week at number one on the R&B singles chart. It also proved to be a successful crossover hit, peaking at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single also made it to number 10 on the disco charts, and reached number 5 in the UK. It eventually went double Platinum for selling 2 million copies

PLIES CLOWNS TRUMP FOR FALLING ASLEEP AT RNC DESPITE KODAK BLACK WARNING

Plies has continued to take aim at Donald Trump, despite Kodak Black recently warning him about "slandering" the former president.

The Florida rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday (July 15) to poke fun at Trump for appearing to fall asleep at the Republican National Convention.

Plies shared a video of the controversial presidential candidate closing his eyes for several moments and seemingly struggling to keep them open at the political event in Milwaukee.

Adding his typically colorful commentary to the clip, Plies said: "He can't stay awake! That boy cannot stay awake. He sleep! They talking, he sleep."

He added in his caption: "[crying face emojis] He Can't Stay Awake At The RNC!! He Sleep Bih!!!!! [crying face emojis] The Media Give Dude All The Passes!!!"

It was just earlier this week that Plies was called out by Kodak Black for criticizing Donald Trump after the 78-year-old survived an assassination attempt.

Kodak, who is a longstanding supporter of Trump's, took aim at his "Real Hitta" collaborator for being unsympathetic after the Republican was nearly killed by a gunman at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania last weekend.

After the incident, Plies launched into a tirade on X (formerly Twitter) in which he suggested that the shooting was staged and slammed Trump for "play[ing] the victim" after "push[ing] hate for the last eight years."

"And U Know What's Even More Crazy He Was In The Middle Telling A 'LIE' Right When This Happen!!!!" he added. "Man God Tied Of Your Sh*t Bruh!! Remember He Was Makin Fun Of Nancy Pelosi Husband Getting Hit In The Head With A Hammer!! God Don't Like Ugly Bruh!!"

"Chaos Vs A Steady Hand! Can't Run On Hate & Act Surprise When It Happens! Unify The Country & Show What Leadership Looks Like!"

Kodak Black, who was pardoned by Trump in 2021, took issue with Plies' comments, saying on Instagram Live: "We ain't goin' for no Trump slander, bruh. You gotta get off that shit, Plies. Trump ain't did nuthin' to you, you feel me? You rich, bruh, we rich. Fall back, love 'cause shit can get mafioso, boy."

SOULJA BOY PILES MISERY ON DRAKE AFTER KENDRICK LAMAR 'DEFEAT': 'YOU DISAPPOINTED ME'

Soulja Boy woke up with Drake's recent Kendrick Lamar battle on his mind, and proceeded to call out the OVO rapper for "disappointing" him.

In series of posts to X in the middle of the night on Tuesday (July 16), Soulja poked fun at the fact that none of Drake's many collaborators came to his defense amid his feud - which many argue that he lost.

"Swag Season July 28 never let a n-gga try me like I'm drake," Soulja wrote. "You disappointed me. @Drake."

In another post, he added: "Doing all them weak ass songs with them n-ggaz look where It got u none of them n-ggaz you collab with or took on tour had yo back @Drake"

Soulja Boy had a memorable viral moment involving Drake in 2019 when "Draaaaaaaaaake?" became a meme during his visit to The Breakfast Club.

The dramatic response came after Breakfast Club co-host Charlamagne Tha God called Drake the "biggest rapper in the world."

Revisiting the moment in an interview with HipHopDX in 2022, Soulja said: "Man, I wasn't expecting it at all. I just went up there, spoke, had a good time, talked to The Breakfast Club. I just spoke my mind, you know what I'm saying? And when I got home, when I got to the hotel, my phone was going crazy and the internet was going viral.

"I was like, 'What happened? What did I say?' And it was like, 'You was like, Drake?' I was like, 'Oh, yeah.' Yeah. But nah, man, it was a good interview, man."

IRV GOTTI SUED IN MIAMI COURT FOR ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT & RAPE

Irv Gotti is being sued in a Miami court for alleged sexual assault and abuse that occurred over the course of two years.

According to a complaint viewed by HipHopDX, a woman identified only as Jane Doe filed a lawsuit in Miami-Dade on July 11 accusing Gotti (real name Irving Domingo Lorenzo) of sexually assaulting and abusing her on several occasions from 2020 to 2022 in Saint Martin, Miami and Atlanta.

The suit seeks a trial by jury.

Among the accusations, Doe alleges Gotti coerced her into having sex with him as soon as they arrived to Saint Martin in 2020 - a trip they took just after meeting at a poker tournament. He threatened to send her home if she didn't, and "due to his power and influence in the music world, she complied," the suit reads.

They then reportedly began dating for two years, during which Doe "suffered constant abuse." Amid the split, the suit alleges Gotti slandered her to his "vast social network in and around Los Angeles," leaving her fearful to leave home.

"As a result of this sexually abusive relationship, Plaintiff has suffered severe emotional and psychological harm for which she had to be committed to a psychiatric ward," the lawsuit reads. "These injuries continue and affect Plaintiff to this day."

50 Cent was quick to share the news about his longtime nemesis to Instagram. With a screenshot of the report on Tuesday (July 16), Fif included a summary of the situation and added: "Oh no [eyes wide emoji] The legal fee's are gonna break his ass in half, he ain't got no money. Welp that all folks."

50 Cent seems to never miss an opportunity to poke fun at Irv Gotti. Back in 2023, the G-Unit mogul poked fun at Irv amid news that Nelly and Ashanti may be back "on again" after so many years apart.

50 shared a video of the pair sharing a steamy moment onstage at Tao Beach in Las Vegas in an Instagram post, next to a picture of Irv looking a little worse for wear - implying that the Murder Inc. co-founder was shell-shocked about the romantic reunion.

"Man, somebody check on Irv Gotti ASAP!" he wrote in the photo. "Know he going through it right now."

"HE WILL BE AIGHT [laughing face emojis]," he wrote in the caption. "I was in love wit her, and she just popped up with Nelly. LOL."

50 Cent and Irv Gotti have been at odds since 1999, after Irv's longtime friend and artist Ja Rule was robbed for his chain at gunpoint in Southside Jamaica, Queens while he was filming a music video, allegedly by an associate of 50 Cent.

"Ja saw me in a club with the kid who robbed him," Fif claimed in his 2005 biography From Pieces to Weight. "I went over to say, 'What's up' to Ja, and he acted like he had a problem with me. But I'm not the one who robbed him."

Ja Rule has since confirmed the robbery took place, but he denies he ever saw 50 Cent with the robber
