This Is #JustATouchof_J 's Did You Know? Kendrick Lamar said, "His Auntie Is A Man Now?"
Hey Kings and Queens!
Good Day Loves!
Smile! It looks great on you!! :)
Did you miss my JustATouchof_J 's Inspirational Tuesday on my JustATouchofJ Mobile App, Instagrams, Facebooks, Tumblr, Twitter, TikTok, Snapchat, Reddit, LinkedIn, and Blackvibes.com, just to name a few? ;)
Did you know that Kendrick Lamar says, "His auntie is a man now?" And that as a child he and his friends would call them "fagot, fagot, fagot," because they didn't know any better in his new Auntie Diaries Song? Written by Kendrick Lamar, the Song is actually one of his biggest hits on his new album entitled Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers!
The highly anticipated album features the track Aunties Diaries and its sent the LQGBTQ COMMUNITY In a uproar! NPR music news states that, "Kendrick Lamar's new song 'Auntie Diaries' divides the LGBTQ+ community!"
"Auntie Diaries" features Lamar rapping in the first person about how he learned to embrace his family members' gender transitions. To critics, the problems begin with the first line of the first verse: "My auntie is a man now."
"Auntie Diaries" is really about Kendrick's relationship with - not actually his auntie - but really his uncle," said Raquel Willis, an author, activist and former executive editor of Out magazine."
Willis said she understood Lamar's intention of "reckoning with both homophobia and transphobia, particularly within the Black community," but found his execution confusing because, "In the song, the Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper repeatedly says a slur commonly wielded against queer people. He also mixes up his relatives' pronouns, and he "deadnames" them - using names that they no longer use." (Fagot)
But, The LA Times says, "Trans fans praise Kendrick Lamar for his 'allyship and activism' on new 'Auntie Diaries' track!"
They said, "no single track has sparked more online conversation than "Auntie Diaries," on which Lamar explores his evolving relationship with his trans relatives. The song is a vivid, exceptionally provocative look into the mind of a younger Lamar forming a concept of transness amid a working-class Compton culture not often inclined to embrace it. But true to form, the Pulitzer Prize-winning hip-hop star doesn't approach it in an easy redemptive arc."
Concluding they say, "The song's mis-genderings and slurs are startling but certainly intentional for their effect; Lamar is one of the most detailed, precise and challenging lyricists in all of music today."
In my opinion, Kendrick will always let his truth startle the worlds view of misinterpretation relating to any community. Whether he is speaking about the gay or straight culture.. He will continue to be expressive in his own way. I agree with the LA Times.. "Lamar is one of the most detailed, precise and challenging lyricists in all of music today."
Could it just be that Kendrick is simply telling the world his truth through his religious faith? The truth that has set him free? As he takes us on a walk throughout the song Lamar allows us to interpret the journey of his childhood struggles as he discusses his own confrontation with transphobia. I honestly think that's why he says that he finally realizes his "auntie is a man now."
Genius.com explains it like this.. "Many non-cisgender children aren't aware they're experiencing dysphoria until they're much older. In other words, "the heart" wants something that "the mind" can't decipher yet.
In conclusion, maybe that's why he starts the song off with these lyrics. "Heart plays in ways the mind can't figure out, Heart plays in ways the mind can't-Heart plays in ways the mind can't figure out. This is how we conceptualize human beings!"
What do you think?
