George Floyd's 10-Year-Old Daughter Executive Producing Biopic About His Life

The story of slain Minneapolis resident George Floyd is being turned into a movie.

Reports state that a biopic of George Floyd's life is currently in the works, with his daughter Gianna Floyd, 10, and her mother Roxie Washington executive producing the project.

Roxie Washington reportedly stated about the film:

"We are excited the world will see the real, jovial, and loving George we know. This film will humanize him, embody the essence of his life, and hopefully reignite efforts to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. It's time for justice and equality for all."

She continued:

"We need to make changes swiftly. No other child should lose their father like Gianna did. We thank everyone who stood with us and protested. George's legacy will live on through this film."

Reportedly, the project is currently titled Daddy Changed the World, and is being produced by Radar Pictures, 8 Queens Film & Media Productions, and Night Fox Entertainment. There is presently no director for the project, though Stomp The Yard writer Gregory R. Anderson has been tapped to write the screenplay. If you recall, George Floyd's tragic 2020 death at the hands of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin captured worldwide attention, sparking protests against police brutality in America, specifically towards its Black citizens.

At the time, authorities had been called to a nearby store where Floyd was accused of using a counterfeit $20 bill. Derek Chauvin arrived at the scene and Floyd was put in handcuffs before the officer knelt on his neck and back for nearly 9 minutes, causing suffocation. Chauvin was ultimately convicted of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter for Floyd's death, and was sentenced to over 20 years behind bars.

The legacy of Floyd's life, however, went on to launch the Black Lives Matter movement into the mainstream and continues to affect efforts against police brutality today. Ahead of the 4th anniversary of his death on May 25th, Floyd trended online recently as internet users remembered the impact of his murder.
