What to do with discontent? Embrace it, fully own it, and you can make it go away. If you blame your discontent on others, that will just make it grow bigger and more burdensome.
There are all sorts of reasons why youâ're unhappy with life. But it is not those reasons that matter, but rather what you're willing to think, to feel and to do.
When you accept that your discontent is yours and yours alone, you can quickly get beyond it. You may not be able to immediately change the outer conditions, but you can instantly change your inner perspective.
You are weighed down with not what has happened, but how you have chosen to respond. Choose to let go of the discontent, and free yourself to grab hold of the most positive possibilities.
Whether the situation is your fault or not, doesn't really matter. Your best strategy is to be sincerely thankful for where you are, and to move quickly in the direction of where you wish to be.
Life can be tough on you, but you don't have ...READ MORE

Now, no one is saying stop the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge (well, some folks who have nothing better to do are but...). However, Orlando Jones makes a point in his version - the Bullet Bucket Challenge - that must not be missed! Given the tragic Mike Brown killing in Ferguson (MO, USA), Jones pours out some cold realness and somberly challenges himself (no fingers pointed, but guaranteed most viewers will feel convicted)...
"...listen without prejudice, love without limits, and reverse the hate."

"It seems when we get to a place where no one knows us, we become most ourselves. We try new things, make new friends..."
The phrase quoted above is the beginning of a commercial about Michigan tourism that captures my attention every time I see it. Why is it that it takes for us to go somewhere that no one knows us, for us to truly become ourselves? Think about it. When we go out of town we let our hair down and do things that we would never dare to try at home. Sometimes we do things that we may regret, but for the most part we engage in enriching experiences that we would never afford ourselves at home.
If we practiced such behavior in our everyday lives, or on a more regular basis, imagine how much more exciting and fulfilling life could be. As I look back over my life, I realize that most of the times that I took risks and tried new things that I've always wanted to do, I was somewhere other than here. I was in Toronto when I got my first tattoo. I was in St. Maarten when ...READ MORE

When you look at the world, what is the first thing that comes to your attention? What perspective do you take? Do you zero in on the problems, the heartaches, the fears and the disappointments, or do you notice the beauty, the joys and all the positive possibilities?
The choice is yours as to how you look at life. If you look at life through a lens of negativity, life will arrange itself to meet your expectations. When you look at life with a more positive perspective, your expectations will surely be met.
Reality is neutral. So it is not unrealistic to look at the bright side, to remain generally positive, and to expect the best in life. Besides what you get from life depends on how you view it and what you make of it.
There are always some raw forces, circumstances and events that are out of your control. Yet you can completely control the way you perceive, respond, adapt and yes, even prosper under their influence.
The choice is yours as to how the control you exercis ...READ MORE

Democracy Now is on the job and on the ground at Ferguson, with coverage and perspectives that probably won't be seen/heard in even left-leaning mainstream media. You've probably seen the brief heated encounter between CNN's Don Lemon and emcee/activist Talib Kweli. Pushed out online (a lot) because of the shock value of the argument. No ground gained, no growth in understanding; and folks didn't really communicate that even that argument ended respectfully for the most part. However, this in depth talk with Kweli and Rosa Clemente (a longtime activist, journalist, scholar, and former director of the Hip-Hop Caucus) gives us the food for thought we need. Calm, thoughtful, progressive talk about matters of substance. With a keen interest in maintaining focus on the protest movement ...READ MORE
